In an effort to raise money for the annual ‘Shop with a Sheriff’ event, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is giving sheriff’s personnel a pass on shaving this month, for a price.
Sheriff Mark Curran and the Lake County Sheriff’s Association are teaming up to support this fundraising effort. Members of the Sheriff’s Office who contribute $25.00 to the ‘Shop with a Sheriff’ event will be given a ‘pass’ on shaving.
‘Shop with a Sheriff’ benefit children in need by providing them an opportunity to shop for essential items such as winter coats and footwear as well as Christmas presents with a uniformed member of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.
The program is completely funded by donations. Each child will have approximately $100.00 to spend. Members of the Sheriff’s Office act as chaperones to assist junior shoppers in making good choices and helping them track their spending. The children are encouraged to purchase those items they need most.
This year’s event also benefits children from A Safe Place – Lake County. A Safe Place/Lake County Crisis Center provides emergency shelter, affordable housing, advocacy, individual group supportive services to abused women in transition and their children, as well as additional services.
Lake County Sheriff’s Association President Mark Vice said, “Every year, we look forward to our annual ‘Shop with a Sheriff’ event. We love seeing the joy this event brings to the children and families who participate; and the extra donations raised with ‘No Shave November’ will go a long in helping ensure no child is left out.”
Sheriff Mark Curran said, “I feel this is a great opportunity for members of the Sheriff’s Office to participate in raising additional funds for this great cause. ‘Shop with a Sheriff’ puts a smile on the faces of children in our community whose families are facing challenges – and brightens their Christmas Season. This is a great event where we connect and share the values of giving and partnership with the community we serve.”
