*Update-Autopsy Results*On October 21, 2017, the Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy on the shooting victim. The victim is identified as Fabian J. Cortez-Milan, 30, of the 2000 block of Jethro Avenue, Zion. The Lake County Coroner’s Office said the preliminary autopsy results show Cortez-Milan’s death is a homicide caused by a gunfire.The incident remains under investigation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office or Lake County CrimeStoppers.

On October 21, 2017, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives and Major Crime Task Force Investigators obtained an arrest warrant for Jasperin F. Melendez, 19, of the 1100 block of West Grove Avenue, Waukegan. The arrest warrant was for First Degree Murder (Class X Felony - $5,000,000.00 bond).Sheriff’s Detectives and members of the Major Crime Task Force located Melendez in Milwaukee, Wisconsin at approximately 9:10PM. A short time later, Melendez was taken into custody at a fast food restaurant drive-through in 600 block of East North Avenue, Milwaukee, with the assistance of the Milwaukee Police Department.The investigation remains active and anyone with information regarding the incident should contact the Lake County Sheriff’s Office at 847-549-5200 or Lake County CrimeStoppers at 847-662-2222.Melendez remains held in the Milwaukee County Jail pending an extradition hearing.The Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on the 30 year-old Zion victim, this morning.Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Unincorporated Grayslake Homicide InvestigationOn October 21, 2017, at approximately 1:36AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 33300 block of Lone Rock Road, unincorporated Grayslake, for a report of shots fired. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a 30 year-old man, of Zion, shot, and critically injured. The man was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced deceased. Preliminary information indicates this was not a random shooting. Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Criminal Investigations Division and Lake County Major Crime Task Force continue to investigate.
