[ARCHIVED] Chicago Man Apprehended Following Bank Robbery

Vasquez

On October 10, 2017 at approximately 3:12PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the Associated Bank at 34354 North Route 45, Third Lake, for a bank robbery.  Following the robbery, the offender, Alan H. Vasquez, 46, of the 3200 block of West Arthington Street, Chicago, drove away in a white Nissan Altima.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies located the Nissan in the area of Peterson Road and Route 45, Libertyville.  Deputies attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the Nissan, however, Vasquez fled.  Deputies pursued Vasquez as he fled south on Route 45.  He then traveled on several side-streets, before going north, then east onto Route 120 to I-94.  Once he reached I-94, Vasquez drove southbound on I-94.  Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies discontinued their pursuit as Vasquez crossed into Cook County, however, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives maintained visual surveillance of Vasquez in unmarked squad cars.

Vasquez continued south on I-94 before merging onto I-294.  He exited I-294 at Willow Road near Glenview.  Vasquez struck a Pontiac Grand Am near the Willow Road tollbooth, as he attempted to hide from an approaching Illinois State Police Squad.

Vasquez was taken into custody by Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives.  The driver and passenger in the Pontiac were transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Evidence from the bank robbery was located in Vasquez’s possession.

Vasquez was transported to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division where he was subsequently charged with Fleeing and Eluding (Class A Misdemeanor), Driving with a Revoked Driver’s License (Class A Misdemeanor), and numerous other traffic violations.

As the institution robbed was a banking institution, Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives contacted the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).  Sheriff’s Detectives processed Vasquez and turned him over to federal authorities regarding the bank robbery.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
