On September 27, 2017 at approximately 7:25PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the area of Route 14 and Kelsey Road, Lake Barrington, for a car versus train crash. When Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, they found a 2009 Cadillac CTS with extensive damage, which was struck by an outbound Metra train. The train was traveling toward Fox River Grove.
Preliminary investigation shows the Cadillac was on the railroad tracks, approximately 100 feet southeast of Kelsey Road (not at an authorized crossing), when it was struck by the train. It appears the driver of the car, a 78 year-old man of Barrington, was either exiting or had just exited his car when the Cadillac was struck. The man sustained critical injuries and was transported via ambulance to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
