On August 11, 2017, two Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies seized nearly 50 pounds of cannabis during a traffic stop.
At approximately 12:30PM, Sheriff’s Deputies conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle without any visible registration, on Route 59 in the area of Devlin Road, Fox Lake. During the course of the traffic stop, the sheriff’s deputies smelled the odor of cannabis. During a subsequent search of the vehicle, Sheriff’s Deputies located over 49 pounds (over 22,000 grams – street value of over $150,000.00), of packaged cannabis.
The driver, Eusvaldo Valenzuela-Gaxiola, 39, of Tulare, California, was also found to be in possession of cocaine. He was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail where he was charged with:
Cannabis Trafficking (Class X Felony)
Delivery of Cannabis (Class X Felony)
Possession of Cannabis (Class 1 Felony)
Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony)
Two Traffic Related Offenses (Misdemeanors)
Valenzuela-Gaxiola remains held at the Lake County Jail on $2,000,000.00 bail. He is next due in court on August 28, 2017 at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
