On July 21, 2017 at approximately 11:00AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 38800 block of North Oakcrest Lane, Wadsworth, for a report of a man with a gun.  

After dispatching sheriff’s deputies to the scene, Lake County Sheriff’s Emergency Telecommunicators obtained information indicating a 76 year-old man was armed with a shotgun, acting irrational, and possibly in mental crisis.  The man was walking around inside of his residence, armed with the shotgun.  The man’s family was inside the residence as this occurred.  

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies, including Crisis Intervention Team (CIT) trained personnel arrived and determined the man was disoriented and in mental crisis.  CIT Deputies established communication with the man and took him in to protective custody.  The man was transported to a local hospital for a mental health evaluation, without further incident.  Sheriff’s Deputies recovered the shotgun at the scene.

Sheriff Mark Curran said, “This is yet another example of the importance of Crisis Intervention Team training.  We train our personnel in both de-escalation and as Crisis Intervention Team members, which has resulted in successfully resolving many tense incidents.”
