Every year, Sheriff Mark Curran invites ‘Bill Glass Behind the Walls – Day of Champions’ to the Lake County Jail to speak with jail inmates. On June 24, ‘Bill Glass Behind the Walls’ volunteers engaged with Lake County Jail Inmates, providing high-energy motivational speaking sessions.
This year, Mike McCoy (former NFL pro-football player), Tanya Crevier (former pro-basketball player), William Green (former NFL pro-football player), and Paul Wrenn (former professional weight-lifter) were keynote speakers.
The volunteers shared stories of challenging life experiences and how faith and good choices turned challenges to successes. Volunteers spoke of obstacles becoming opportunities, living in the light, and forgiveness. Jail inmates were moved by the volunteers’ drive, enthusiasm, and compassion for them.
The event was made available to all inmates currently housed in the Lake County Jail. The group of speakers spent the day providing both group presentations and one-on-one counseling sessions with over 500 jail inmate participants.
Sheriff Mark Curran said, “This was another successful event and we received positive feedback from nearly all of the inmates who participated. One of the primary initiatives we have in the jail is providing educational, behavioral, and spiritual opportunities to inmates. The ‘Day of Champions’ gives inmates an opportunity to interact with a group of nationally-recognized sports figures sharing how faith turned their lives around.”
