On June 3, 2017, two members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post participated in a regional explorer training competition in Rockford, IL. The competition allows area police explorers to compete in a number of different law enforcement related training scenarios.
During the competition, two Lake County Sheriff’s Explorers were teamed-up with an explorer from the Peoria Police Explorer Post. The team of three won fourth place in the search warrant competition.
Members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Explorer Post meet twice a month and learn about the many different aspects of law enforcement. The group is overseen by Sheriff’s Command Staff and five Sheriff’s Deputies. Membership is comprised of youth aged 14-21 who are interested in learning about law enforcement.
Sheriff Mark Curran said, “I’m proud of Lake County Explorers Evelyn and Daisy for their hard work and earning a trophy in the search warrant competition! The Lake County Sheriff’s Office has a great group of hardworking explorers. Our explorer program is a great way for youth to learn about law enforcement, and we often see our explorers move on to successful law enforcement careers.”
Anyone interested in joining the Lake County Sheriff’s Explorer Post should contact Sergeant Kevin Eckenstahler at 847-377-7020.
