On May 17, 2017, at approximately 9:15AM, members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Court Emergency Response Team (CERT) responded to man with a gun call, just outside of the Waukegan Court Complex, 18 North County Street, Waukegan.
CERT Deputies learned Dirk Harris, 47, of the 1800 block of Hebron Ave, Zion, pointed a handgun at an adult male victim, outside of the main entrance to the facility. The victim was entering the courthouse for a dissolution of marriage court hearing.
Just prior to the arrival of CERT Deputies, Harris fled from the scene in a vehicle. A short time later, Harris returned to the area and was taken into custody by CERT Deputies. A loaded Ruger .357 handgun was located in Harris’ vehicle.
Harris was subsequently charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon (class 4 felony) and aggravated assault (class A misdemeanor).
Harris remains held at the Lake County Jail on $50,000.00 bail. His next court date is May 19, 2017 at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
