On May 10, 2017 a Lake County Grand Jury indicted Lake County Deputy Sheriff Justin Hill on three counts of perjury (class 3 felonies). Following the indictment, a Lake County Judge issued a $10,000.00 arrest warrant for Hill.
On November 23, 2016 the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an incident involving Hill testifying in court. Hill testified at a DUI Statutory Summary Suspension hearing on November 2, 2016. It was discovered there were inconsistencies with Hill’s testimony which potentially resulted in perjury.
Upon being informed of this, Deputy Chief James Elliot of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Office of Professional Standards, conducted an immediate investigation. Hill was placed on administrative leave and relieved of his police powers.
Deputy Chief Elliot conducted a thorough investigation and turned the results over to the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office presented the facts of the investigation to a Grand Jury and Hill was indicted by the Grand Jury.
Hill surrendered himself to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office on May 10th, in the afternoon. He was processed and released after posting the required bond. Hill is next due in court on May 18, 2017 at 9:00AM in courtroom C-202.
Hill was hired as a sheriff’s deputy in September of 2014. Disciplinary proceedings regarding Hill’s employment status are ongoing.
