On April 25, 2017 at approximately 6:45AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Russell Road and North Delany Road, in Newport Township, for a traffic crash with injuries. When sheriff’s deputies arrived they located a two-vehicle crash, with one vehicle on its roof.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2004 Mazda 6, driven by a 34 year-old man (unknown current address), was traveling westbound on Russell Road. The driver, for an unknown reason, attempted to pass a westbound 2008 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 56 year-old man of Kenosha, WI. As the driver of the Mazda attempted to make his pass, it appears the Mazda made contact with the Chevrolet. The Mazda then rolled and the driver was ejected. The driver was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to Aurora Healthcare in Kenosha with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. The identity of the deceased driver is being withheld pending notification to next of kin.
