On April 22, 2017 at approximately 6:10PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a residence in the 18900 block of West Old Plank Road, unincorporated Grayslake, for a report of a domestic battery.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and learned Lloyd R. Smith, 46, (unknown permanent address), battered his ex-girlfriend earlier in the day and fled. Further investigation revealed Smith entered the above residence, without permission, while his ex-girlfriend was sleeping. Smith took his ex-girlfriend’s cellular phone, preventing her the ability to call for help. He held both the ex-girlfriend and her young child captive, in the residence, for several hours. During this time, the girlfriend reported Smith battered her and threatened to kill her. He then fled from the residence.
Smith had an active arrest warrant for escape, after being sentenced to Community Based Corrections/electronic monitoring in a previous case, and not reporting when required. He also had an active warrant for unlawful restraint and domestic battery for a similar incident, which occurred last month.
Sheriff’s deputies, detectives, and members of the sheriff’s warrants team began efforts to locate and apprehend Smith. Smith was located at a motel in the 500 block of Northwest Highway, Palatine. Lake County Sheriff’s Warrants Deputies, who were assisted by Palatine Police Officers, successfully apprehended Smith in his hotel room.
Smith was transported to the Lake County Jail where he was charged with felony counts of residential burglary, unlawful restraint, domestic battery, criminal trespass to residence, and driving with a revoked driver’s license, in addition to his active arrest warrants.
He currently remains held in the Lake County Jail after a Judge ordered him held without bail. Smith is due in court on April 28, 2017 at 9:00AM in courtroom C-120.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
