[ARCHIVED] Fatal Fremont Township Traffic Crash

On March 18, 2017 at approximately 10:10PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic crash with injuries in the area of Route 176 east of Ivanhoe Road, in Fremont Township. When sheriff’s deputies arrived they located a single-vehicle which struck a utility pole, with extensive damage.

Preliminary investigation shows a 2005 Acura TL, being driven by James T. Horan, 60, of Park Ridge, was traveling eastbound on Route 176, just east of Ivanhoe Road. The Acura was only occupied by Horan. For an unknown reason, the vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. There was extensive damage to the Acura, as well as the utility pole, which caused a power outage in the area. Horan sustained serious injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigation Unit and Lake County Coroner’s Office. Investigators will determine if drugs or alcohol were a factor in the crash.
