On January 22, 2017 at approximately 3:29PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Channel Lake, Unincorporated Antioch, for a report of two people who fell through the ice.
Preliminary investigation shows two adult males were ice fishing on Channel Lake. When they were returning to the shore, at approximately 3:10PM, both fell through the thin ice approximately 100 yards offshore. One man was able to pull himself out of the water and after being in the water for approximately 30 minutes, the other man was rescued by members of the Antioch Fire Department.
One man was transported to Saint Catherine’s Hospital in Kenosha, WI, and the other man was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. Both were transported with non-life threatening injuries.
The sheriff’s office reminds the community due to warm temperatures the ice on the lakes can be dangerously thin.
