On January 18, 2017 at approximately 1:06AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a single-vehicle rollover traffic crash in the area of North Route 59 and Miller Road, North Barrington. Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found the driver fled the scene on foot.

A Lake County Sheriff’s Canine Team along with several sheriff’s deputies began searching for the driver. A short time later, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office received a 911 call regarding a suspicious person in the woods, near the 200 block of North Route 59, North Barrington. Sheriff’s Canine Dax approached the wooded area and began barking. This caused the driver who fled the crash scene, Ryan O’Toole, 21 of Ingleside, to surrender and walk out of the woods.

O’Toole was found in possession of burglary proceeds. Further investigation by sheriff’s deputies and sheriff’s detectives revealed O’Toole committed a burglary in the 200 block of Biltmore Drive, North Barrington.

O’Toole was subsequently charged with residential burglary (class 1 felony), two counts of burglary to motor vehicle (class 2 felonies), theft (class 3 felony), and a number of traffic related offenses regarding the traffic crash and his subsequent fleeing the scene.

O’Toole is being held at the Lake County Jail pending a bond hearing.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
