On December 23, 2016, just after midnight, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were on the scene of a traffic crash on Route 60 at Riverwoods Boulevard, Mettawa. A tow truck driver was on-scene towing one of the cars from the crash.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies had their squad cars in the roadway, with their emergency lights active, to protect the occupants of the crashed vehicles and personnel working at the crash scene. While on-scene, sheriff’s deputies observed an eastbound Kia Spectra driving quickly toward the squad cars. The sheriff’s deputies were able to move out of the way before the Kia struck one of the squads. The Kia then struck one of the vehicles which was in the previous crash.
The driver of the Kia, Lauren R. Kimbrell, 27, of the 500 block of Westmoreland Avenue, Waukegan, was found to be driving under the influence of alcohol. Additionally, an open container of alcohol was located inside her vehicle. She was arrested and transported to the Lake County Jail and charged with two counts of driving under the influence of alcohol (Class A Misdemeanors), illegal transportation of alcohol (traffic offense), failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident (traffic offense), and several other traffic offenses. Kimbrell is next due in court on February 1, 2017, at 9:00AM in courtroom C-404.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
