The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is pleased to announce the recent graduation of Sergeant George Love and Corrections Lieutenant Raymond Tyburski from Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command (SPSC) Class #400. Sergeant Love was selected by his classmates to the lead the class through their ten-weeks together, as class president.

Former Chicago Police Department First Deputy Superintendent and current Northeastern Illinois University Chief of Police John Escalante was the keynote speaker for the graduation ceremony.

The ten-week School of Police Staff and Command program was held in Evanston, Illinois from September 26 - December 9, 2016. Since the program's inception in 1983, Northwestern University's Center for Public Safety has graduated over 14,000 students both nationally and internationally. The School of Police Staff and Command provides college-level instruction in a total of twenty-seven core blocks of instruction during each session. The major study topics include leadership, human resources, employee relations, organizational behavior, applied statistics, planning and policy development, budgeting and resource allocation.

Lieutenant Tyburski and Sergeant Love, along with their class colleagues, raised over $8,000 as a legacy gift for Brotherhood for the Fallen, an organization which sends police officers to funerals of fallen police officers throughout the United States and Canada, providing support to the family members of the fallen officers. Money raised was also donated to Concerns of Police Survivors (C.O.P.S.), an organization which provides support and resources to the families of fallen police officers.

Sheriff Mark Curran said, “I’m extremely proud of Lieutenant Tyburski and Sergeant Love for their dedication and commitment to law enforcement excellence. I have no doubt they will both apply what they have learned to continue raising the bar at the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.”

Undersheriff Ray Rose added, “Northwestern University’s School of Police Staff and Command is an extremely prestigious ten-week management course for police supervisors and administrators. Through their leadership abilities and willingness to be challenged academically, Lieutenant Tyburski and Sergeant Love will continue positively guiding and mentoring those they supervise.
