[ARCHIVED] Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic Safety Results

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducted increased traffic safety patrols from November 14- 27. During this time, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office reminded motorists to buckle up and drive sober, both day and night. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined other state and local law enforcement agencies across Illinois to reduce highway fatalities by ticketing unbuckled motorists and arresting impaired drivers.

During the increased traffic safety effort, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office arrested four people for driving under the influence of alcohol, arrested four people for drug related violations, arrested 7 people for driving with a suspended or revoked driver’s license, issued 27 seatbelt citations, 22 speeding citations, and 11 uninsured motorist citations. A total of 108 traffic citations were issued during the traffic safety campaign.

“Our sheriff’s deputies are out year-round to keep the motoring public safe. Drunk driving kills, and I urge anyone that’s been drinking to utilize a designated driver or alternate means of transportation. Don’t drink and drive!” says Sheriff Mark Curran.

Undersheriff Ray Rose added, “We hope you make it a priority to drive safely and buckle-up on the roadways. Seatbelts save lives, so we will continue watching to ensure vehicle occupants are buckled up!”

This law enforcement mobilization was funded by federal traffic safety funds through the Illinois Department of Transportation and is part of the nationwide “Click It or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns. For more information, visit www.idot.illinois.gov.
