The Lake County Sheriff’s Office will conduct extra traffic safety patrols from November 18 - November 28, 2016, during the Thanksgiving Holiday Traffic Safety Campaign.
Thanksgiving is considered a family holiday and marks the start of the holiday season for many people. It is also one of the deadliest times on our roadways because of impaired drivers. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies will be focusing their efforts on locating impaired drivers, speeders, distracted drivers, and occupant restraint violators, during the campaign.
Sheriff Mark Curran said, “We want to see everyone have a happy and safe Thanksgiving holiday. We will have extra sheriff’s deputies out on the roads to ensure those traveling can arrive safely at their destinations.”
Undersheriff Ray Rose said, “Make driving arrangements in advance, plan to have a designated driver or other means to get home safely. If riding in a car, remember to always wear your seat belt, regardless of where you are sitting.”
The additional patrols are funded through a grant from the United States Department of Transportation, National Highway Administration. The grant is administered by the Illinois Department of Transportation, Bureau of Safety Programs and Engineering.
Have a safe and happy Thanksgiving from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office!
