On October 30, 2016, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a suspicious item in a child’s trick-or-treat candy bag. The incident occurred in the Cambridge subdivision in Beach Park.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and located a device used to prick fingers, commonly used to test blood/sugar levels. The family reported the item was placed in the child’s bag, while trick-or-treating. The family was unsure of where or when the item could have been placed in the child’s trick-or-treat bag.
Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives responded and conducted a canvass of numerous homes the family had visited during their trick-or-treating. Detectives are investigating whether or not the item was intentionally placed in the child’s bag.
The Village of Beach Park issued a recorded phone message to the homes in the Cambridge subdivision, reminding parents to inspect the contents of their child’s trick-or-treat bag. At this time there have not been any other reports of this.
