[ARCHIVED] Suspicious Item Located in Beach Park Trick-or-Treat Bag

On October 30, 2016, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office was made aware of a suspicious item in a child’s trick-or-treat candy bag. The incident occurred in the Cambridge subdivision in Beach Park.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and located a device used to prick fingers, commonly used to test blood/sugar levels. The family reported the item was placed in the child’s bag, while trick-or-treating. The family was unsure of where or when the item could have been placed in the child’s trick-or-treat bag.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives responded and conducted a canvass of numerous homes the family had visited during their trick-or-treating. Detectives are investigating whether or not the item was intentionally placed in the child’s bag.

The Village of Beach Park issued a recorded phone message to the homes in the Cambridge subdivision, reminding parents to inspect the contents of their child’s trick-or-treat bag. At this time there have not been any other reports of this.

Anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to call the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division at 847-377-4250.
