On October 5, 2016, at approximately 2:22PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 18600 block of West Old Gages Lake Road, Gages Lake, for a report of an armed robbery. Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives learned the victim, a 54 year-old man, lost his cellular phone earlier in the day. The victim believed he placed his cellular phone on his vehicle while getting prepared to leave for work and it fell off the vehicle, in his neighborhood, as he was driving.
The victim later called his cellular phone from a different telephone. A male answered the phone and said he would return the cellular phone to the victim, in exchange for $100.00. The victim agreed to meet the man who was now in possession of the cellular phone. The two agreed to meet at the Wildwood Presbyterian Church in Gages Lake.
The offender, later identified as Jeffery R. Fillebrown, 29, of the 17900 block of West Greentree Road, Gages Lake, arrived at the church with the victim’s phone. The victim took the phone out of Fillebrown’s hand and Fillebrown produced a hand gun. Fillebrown pointed the handgun at the victim’s head. The victim then gave the cellular phone back to Fillebrown and fled the area.
Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and Detectives quickly identified Fillebrown as the offender. Fillebrown was arrested on October 6, 2016, and subsequently charged with attempt armed robbery (class 1 felony), aggravated assault (class A misdemeanor), and violation of the firearm concealed carry act (class B misdemeanor).
The firearm used by Fillebrown was recovered. Sheriff’s detectives are in communication with the Illinois State Police in an effort to revoke Fillebrown’s Firearm Owner Identification Card (FOID) and Concealed Carry License.
Fillebrown is currently being held in the Lake County Jail on $20,000.00 bail. He is next due in court on October 11, 2016 at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
