On Tuesday, May 9, 2023, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined with numerous police agencies in northern Illinois to conduct a traffic safety initiative along the Route 59 corridor. Sheriff’s deputies concentrated their efforts on speed, distracted driving, and occupant restraint violations. From 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., sheriff’s deputies conducted proactive patrols along Route 59 in Lake County and issued citations for the following violations:
10 citations for distracted driving violations
9 citations for speeding
2 citations for occupant protection violations
2 citations for other traffic offenses
1 arrest for driving while license suspended
The sheriff’s office campaign is administered and funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation with federal highway safety funds managed by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
