More than 180 new laws are set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2023, covering a range of issues big and small that affect Illinois residents. Some of the new laws include:
- The Safe-T Act eliminates the cash bail system and evaluates "pre-trial detention" based on "community risk" rather than finances.
- Women who have a miscarriage, other diagnosis or event that impacts pregnancy or fertility, or death of a family member can take 10 days of unpaid leave.
- Any smoke detectors must have a self-contained, non-removable, long term battery.
- The vehicle registration fee for cars and small trucks will be reduced if the vehicle was manufactured in Illinois.
