On Monday, August 15, 2022 at approximately 11:30 PM, Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the area of U.S. Route 41 north of Wadsworth Road in Wadsworth for a traffic crash with injuries. Upon arrival, Sheriff’s deputies located a gray 2015 Chevrolet Malibu and a white 2019 Mack truck with an attached trailer in the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 41. Both vehicles sustained heavy crash damage. The driver and sole occupant of the Chevrolet Malibu, a 26-year-old male from Chicago, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver and sole occupant of the Mack truck, a 48-year-old male from Grayslake, was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center with minor injuries.
Investigators from the Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Team responded to the scene. The preliminary investigation shows the Chevrolet Malibu was traveling southbound on U.S. Route 41 in the northbound lanes of traffic, for an unknown reason. The Chevrolet Malibu collided with the northbound Mack truck. Both vehicles came to rest in the southbound lanes of traffic.
Crash investigators and the Lake County Coroner’s Office are working to determine if impairment was a factor in this crash. The identification of the deceased driver is being withheld pending notification to his family.
The investigation will continue through the Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Team.
