On June 16, 2022, at approximately 12:10 a.m., Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 25800 block of West Marquette Drive, Ingleside, for a burglary in progress. While responding, sheriff’s deputies were informed the victim homeowner of the Marquette Drive home was holding the burglar at gunpoint.
Sheriff’s deputies arrived and found James J. Rizzo, 34, of the 100 block of Windward Road, Lakemoor, being detained by the victim. Sheriff’s deputies arrested Rizzo. Further investigation revealed Rizzo burglarized the victim’s car, as it was parked in the driveway. Rizzo utilized the car’s garage door opener to open the garage and enter the home. The victim, who was sleeping, awoke and found Rizzo inside the master bedroom. The victim held Rizzo at gunpoint until sheriff’s deputies arrived.
After reviewing the circumstances, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved a charge of residential burglary (class 1 felony) against Rizzo.
Rizzo remains held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning.
All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
