Classes, dates and descriptions:

Increasing Endurance: Borrowing Basics
January 26th, 12:00pm
Things happen in life where you suddenly might need a small loan. When the time comes, knowing what factors to look at will keep you from making rash decisions. This session will discuss various options of borrowing money from financial institutions and what they really cost. We'll also go over tips on how to make borrowing money a bit easier. Free Grant Money for your Non-Profit: Learn about the Charitable Trust Fund of Illinois
February 11th, 1:00pm
Are you a small non-profit that provides food, housing assistance, or workforce and economic development?

Join Treasurer Holly Kim and Illinois Treasurer Michael Frerichs for an information session about the Charitable Trust Fund grants available to non-profit organizations. Learn about how and when to apply and meet previous Lake County recipients. [Watch the video here]

This session will cover banking services and is designed to help participants build a positive relationship with a financial institution. It will describe financial products and services, provide information on selecting financial products, services and providers and explains the basic steps for opening and managing checking and savings accounts. Coming Back after Injury: Credit Score Fiscal Therapy
April 13th, 12:00pm
Foreclosure, bankruptcy or a history of missing payments can send your credit scores into the basement. The good news: nothing is permanent in the world of credit and credit scoring. You can rehabilitate your scores over time if you know how. This session will discuss how to recover from financial challenges where your credit suffers as a result by sharing ways to repair, rebuild, and maintain a productive credit history. 
Know your Worth!

In simple terms, net worth is the difference between what you own and what you owe. Tracking your net worth over time offers a more meaningful view of your finances. This class will teach you how to calculate your net worth and how to use it to get a good measure of your financial fitness. Learn how to calculate your net worth because assets lead to wealth and financial security.
Lose the Weight! Managing your Debt
June 22nd, 11:00am
This session will help participants understand what debt is and how to manage it. It will also define debt and credit and explain how they differ, define phrases commonly used to discuss debt, provide strategies for reducing debit and explain the consequences of not paying debt. If time allows we can also review student debt, medical debt and high cost debt.
Nearing the Finish Line: A Class for Older Adults
July 27th, 12:00pm
Financial planning is complex and confusing in your golden years. This session will assist older adults in preparing for a more secure future by explaining how to protect against identity theft and other forms of financial exploitation as well as how to prepare financially for unexpected life events.

August 10th, 11:00am
Whether you’re buying or selling a home, the experience can be both rewarding and stressful. We’re here to help guide you through the journey. Learn what the process looks like when buying real estate: Do I need a realtor, lawyer, etc.? What is a down-payment grant? Get all your questions answered right here.
Conditioning for Success: Financial Management for Small Businesses

This session will explain the concept of financial management, identify practices and rules, and explain the basics of start-up financing for a growing business and working capital and fixed assets.
