The Lake County Sheriff’s Office conducts alcohol compliance checks at Lake County establishments that sell alcohol. The compliance checks are designed to ensure establishments vending alcohol are not selling to anyone under the age of 21.
In June, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office concluded the second yearly round of alcohol compliance checks. Of the 60 establishments tested, four of them sold alcohol to someone under the age of 21.
Of the four establishments in violation, two of them failed to check identification and the other two checked identification, but sold the alcohol to the underage person anyway.
Sheriff Mark Curran said, “There is the potential for so much tragedy to occur when someone underage purchases alcohol. This is one of the many reasons we conduct random alcohol compliance checks.”
Undersheriff Ray Rose added, “The Lake County Sheriff’s Office expects establishments selling alcohol to take their responsibilities seriously. It’s absolutely imperative the buyer’s age is verified before dispensing alcohol.”
