On June 6, 2016, members of the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for traffic violations in the area of 10th Street and Martin Luther King, Jr. Avenue, Waukegan. During the traffic stop, Sheriff’s Gang Task Force Detectives identified Edurawdo L. Hawthorne, 29, of the 300 block of McKinley Avenue, Waukegan, being a passenger in the vehicle.
Hawthorne provided a false name to detectives during the traffic stop. Upon learning his true identity, detectives discovered he had an active arrest warrant out of the Sate of Kentucky for three counts of Possession of a Firearm by a Felon and a Parole Violation. Additionally, he had two active arrest warrants out of Waukegan for Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance, Identity Theft, Forgery, Obstructing a Peace Officer, and Unlawful Possession of Cannabis.
During his arrest by Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force Detectives, Hawthorne was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm and 16 individually packaged bags of crack cocaine.
Another passenger in the vehicle, Javon Roy, 23, also of the 300 block of McKinley Avenue, refused to exit the vehicle upon the request of detectives. Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force Detectives successfully opened the door and placed Roy into custody for Obstructing a Peace Officer.
Hawthorne was subsequently charged with:
Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver (Class 1 Felony)
Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon (Class 2 Felony)
Unlawful Possession of a Controlled Substance (Class 4 Felony)
Unlawful Use of a Weapon-No FOID Card (Class 4 Felony)
Unlawful Use of a Weapon-No Concealed Carry Permit (Class 4 Felony)
Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon- While in violation of the Controlled Substances Act (Class 4 Felony)
Fugitive from Justice (Class 4 Felony)
Obstructing Justice (Class 4 Felony)
Roy was subsequently charged with Obstructing a Peace Officer (Class A Misdemeanor), and released pending a return court date of July 18, 2016, at 8:45AM, in courtroom C-150.
Hawthorne is being held at the Lake County Jail on $250,000.00 bail on the charges by the Lake County Sheriff’s Gang Task Force. He is due in court on June 27, 2016, at 1:30PM in courtroom C-120.
Sheriff Curran reminds the public that the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
