On June 19, 2016, at approximately 5:05PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Route 137, and the off-ramp from southbound Route 45, in Unincorporated Libertyville, for a traffic crash with injuries. When sheriff’s deputies arrived, they learned one of the drivers involved in the crash was critically injured.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2014 Cadillac CTS was traveling westbound on Route 137 approaching the Route 45 off-ramp. A 2003 Chrysler Town and Country mini-van were on the off-ramp for southbound Route 45, and the driver was attempting to make a left turn onto eastbound Route 137. The driver of the Chrysler proceeded to make the left turn, and was struck by the westbound Cadillac.
The driver of the Chrysler, an 85-year-old woman, of Deerfield was transported to Condell Hospital with critical injuries. She succumbed to injuries and was pronounced deceased. The passenger in the Chrysler, a 63-year-old man, of Deerfield, was transported to Condell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The driver of the Cadillac, a 22- year-old-man, of Round Lake Beach, was transported to the Northwestern-Grayslake Emergency Room with non-life threatening injuries. A 22-month-old passenger in the Cadillac was also transported to Northwestern-Grayslake Emergency Room with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
