On June 16, 2016, at approximately 3:25 PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Fairfield Road, north of Route 176, Unincorporated Wauconda, for a traffic crash with injuries. When sheriff’s deputies arrived they located a 2006 Cadillac DTS and 2013 Hyundai Sonata with significant damage. The driver of the Cadillac was found to have suffered critical injuries.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the Hyundai was traveling northbound on Fairfield Road. The driver of the Cadillac was exiting the Lakewood Dog Park (27511 North Fairfield Road, Unincorporated Wauconda), and attempted to make a left turn to travel southbound on Fairfield Road. As the driver of Cadillac attempted to make the turn, he pulled out directly in front of the northbound Hyundai. The front-end of the Hyundai struck the driver’s side of the Cadillac.
The driver of the Cadillac, a 72-year-old man, of Lake Zurich, was transported to Condell Hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai, an 18-year-old man, of Wauconda, was transported to Condell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. A five-year-old male passenger in the Hyundai was also transported to Condell Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
