On June 7, 2016, at approximately 5:31PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the 26000 block of West Channel Avenue, Unincorporated Antioch, to assist the ambulance with an unresponsive 71-year-old woman. The 911 caller was the 23-year-old grandson of the woman, who resides with her. The grandson informed 911 dispatchers it appeared two dogs inside their residence attacked his grandmother. Sheriff’s deputies arrived at the residence and found the 71-year-old deceased in a bedroom.
Preliminary investigation indicates the grandson left the residence in the morning to go to work. His grandmother and their two dogs, a German Shepherd and a Labrador/Chow Mix, remained at the residence. When he arrived back home after work, at approximately 5:30PM, he found his grandmother unresponsive in the bedroom, and the German Shepherd was no longer inside the residence.
Detectives responded to the scene and determined the 71-year-old woman sustained numerous dog bites on her body. The German Shepherd was found roaming the neighborhood and was captured by sheriff’s deputies and Lake County Animal Control. Animal control also took custody of the Lab/Chow Mix.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on the 71-year-old on June 8, 2016, in the morning, to determine the cause of death, and whether or not the dogs were a factor in her death.
