[ARCHIVED] Waukegan Man Arrested After Breaking into Beach Park Home

On November 4, 2020, at approximately 9:40AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to a residence in the 12700 block of West 28th Street, Beach Park, for a report of an intruder inside a residence.

While sheriff’s deputies were en-route to the residence, sheriff’s emergency telecommunicators learned the caller was home with her five young children.  She locked herself and her children in a bedroom, because a man who was unknown to her appeared to be attempting to gain entry into her home.  The man, later identified as Jose Herrera, Jr., 23, of the 300 block of North Green Bay Road, Waukegan, broke down a door and entered the home.

When inside the home, Herrera repeatedly yelled, “Where is she at?”  Sheriff’s deputies and Zion Police Officers arrived on the scene and took Herrera into custody.  He was transported via ambulance to an area hospital, as he sustained injuries to his arms and legs while forcing his way into the home.

Herrera was not known to anyone inside the victims’ residence.

Herrera was released from the hospital in the afternoon on November 4th and transported to the Lake County Jail.  After hearing the facts of the case, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges for Herrera:

Criminal Damage to Property (Class 4 Felony)

Criminal Trespass to Property (Class 4 Felony)

Assault (Class A Misdemeanor)

Disorderly Conduct (Class A Misdemeanor)

Herrera is being held in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
