On August 12, 2020, at approximately 1:20PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic crash with injuries in a parking lot in the 26200 block of North Route 83, Unincorporated Mundelein.  Sheriff’s deputies arrived and located a 70-year-old female, of Waukegan, with critical injuries.  

Preliminary investigation shows the female was operating a 2009 Motofino Scooter.  She was leaving the parking lot, when for an unknown reason, she drove slightly off the pavement.  This caused her to fall off the scooter and strike her head on a railroad tie, which was acting as a barrier between the pavement and grass.  The railroad tie had a spike protruding, which impaled the rider.  

The rider was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with critical injuries and remains in grave condition. 

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
