From 9:00PM until 3:00AM on Friday, May 27, into Saturday, May 28, 2016, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office joined forces with the Illinois State Police and Fox Lake Police Department in an effort to increase traffic safety during the Memorial Day holiday weekend. Sheriff’s deputies, state troopers, and local police officers worked together in the Fox Lake area, focusing on traffic safety violations, including driving under the influence (DUI), speeding violations, and seat belt enforcement.
“Memorial Day weekend started the summer vacation season and our priority was to ensure everyone arrived at their destination safely,” said Sheriff Mark Curran.
The high visibility enforcement campaign was timed to begin with increased travel for the Memorial Day weekend.
The results of the campaign included:
Two DUI Arrests
Two Possession of Cannabis Arrests
Three Possession of Drug Paraphernalia Arrests
Two Consumption of Alcohol by a Minor Arrests
Two Possession of Fraudulent Identification Arrests
One Warrant Arrest
Nine Speeding Citations Issued
Two Failure to Wear a Seatbelt Citations Issued
12 Other Traffic Citations Issued
Undersheriff Ray Rose praised the team traffic safety effort saying, “We were successfully able to keep motorists safe in the ‘Chain O’Lakes’ area thanks to the combined efforts of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, Fox Lake Police Department, and Illinois State Police.”
The Lake County Sheriff’s Office will continue to have partnerships with the Illinois State Police and Fox Lake Police Department in June to keep the motoring public safe.
