[ARCHIVED] Update on Fatal Volo Traffic Crash

On May 26, 2016, following a thorough investigation, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Brandon A. Stang, 23, of the 400 block of North Main Street, Wauconda, for one count of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence of Cannabis - Causing Death (Class 2 Felony). Stang was the driver of the 2008 Ford Mustang, who struck a pedestrian, and it was determined Stang was driving under the influence of cannabis at the time of the crash.

The pedestrian, Stephanie V. Kostenko, 22, of Lake Zurich, was critically injured as a result of the crash, and later succumbed to her injuries.

On May 27, 2016, Stang surrendered himself to the custody of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office. He is currently being held at the Lake County Jail on $100,000.00 bail.

Sheriff Curran reminds the public the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty by a court of law.

Fatal Volo Traffic Crash

On May 5, 2016, at approximately 2:38AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic crash with injuries on Route 12, south of Route 120, Volo. Deputies arrived and found a woman deceased in the roadway, who was struck by a car.

Preliminary investigation shows a 2008 Ford Mustang was traveling southbound on Route 12, south of Route 120. As the driver of the Ford traveled south, he struck the pedestrian, who was in the roadway for an unknown reason.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy on the female on May 6, 2016, in the morning.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
