On June 16, 2020, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS-GLRFTF) attempted to apprehend a man wanted on a first-degree murder warrant. The warrant was from a 2018 homicide in Zion.
USMS-GLRFTF developed information the wanted subject was at a residence in the 38500 block of North Green Bay Road, Beach Park. Preliminary information shows at approximately 12:30PM, as USMS-GLRFTF approached, the 24-year-old man exited a vehicle in the driveway of the residence armed with a pistol. The man began shooting at the warrants apprehension unit. Two members of the warrants team returned fire, and the man was shot.
Members of the warrants team immediately began life savings efforts until paramedics arrived. The man was transported to Vista East Hospital in Waukegan where he was subsequently pronounced deceased.
As per officer-involved-shooting protocol, the Lake County Major Crime Task Force was contacted to respond and conduct an independent investigation.
