On Saturday, May 2, 2020, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to two separate serious traffic crashes with critical injuries.
At approximately 6:10PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a parking lot in the 25900 block of Riverwoods Road, Mettawa, for a motorcycle crash. Preliminary investigation shows the operator of a Honda Gold Wing Motorcycle, a 55-year-old man of Wadsworth, was traveling in the parking lot. For an unknown reason, he accelerated at a high rate of speed, causing the front wheel of the Honda to rise from the roadway. The driver lost control and crashed. He was not wearing a helmet, was critically injured, and transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville via ambulance.
At approximately 8:45PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to Sheridan Road and Mawman Avenue in Beach Park for a traffic crash with injuries. Preliminary investigation shows a Chevrolet Impala, driven by a 22-year-old male of North Chicago, was traveling southbound on Sheridan Road. For an unknown reason, the driver of the Chevrolet crossed into the northbound lanes of Sheridan Road, striking a northbound Nissan Rogue, driven by a 37-year-old man of Waukegan, head-on.
Both drivers were transported to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan. The driver of the Chevrolet was transported to the hospital via ambulance in critical condition. The driver of the Nissan was transported with minor injuries.
Both crashes remain under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
