[ARCHIVED] Wanted Antioch Man Apprehended After Fleeing, Striking Squads, Causing Injury to Deputy

Scott

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office Warrants Team in conjunction with the U.S. Marshals Service – Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force (USMS-GLRFTF) apprehended a Zion man wanted on a $2,000,000.00 warrant for aggravated battery with a firearm and other charges.  Jayvion C. Scott, 21, of the 300 block of Birchwood Drive, Antioch, was arrested after attempting to flee from the team attempting to arrest him.

Members of the Sheriff’s Warrants Team/USMS-GLRFTF developed information Scott was at a residence in 2300 block of North Lewis Avenue, Zion.  Warrants deputies conducted surveillance on the residence and observed Scott leaving at approximately 1:15PM.  Scott entered a vehicle and Warrants Deputies surrounded the vehicle in an attempt to apprehend him, but Scott rammed a squad car and drove through a front yard to flee.  As a result of the crash, Scott’s vehicle sustained a punctured tire, which caused the tire to deflate.

Warrants deputies pursued Scott, and Scott lost control of his vehicle in the area of Lewis Avenue near Russell Road, in Zion Township.  Scott struck a guardrail and warrants deputies were able to position their vehicles to prevent Scott from fleeing.  Scott did not comply with the orders to exit his vehicle and he had to be extracted from the vehicle by warrants deputies.

One member of the USMS-GLRFTF sustained a laceration to his arm during the arrest, while extracting Scott from the vehicle.  He was treated at an area hospital, received several stitches, and was released.  Scott was taken to Vista East Medical Center in Waukegan for evaluation, where he was evaluated and released back into custody.

In addition to the arrest warrant, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved the following charges:

Aggravated battery to a peace officer (class 2 felony)

Resisting a peace officer causing injury (class 4 felony)

Criminal damage to government property (class 4 felony)

Aggravated fleeing and eluding (class 4 felony)

Numerous traffic citations

The initial arrest warrant for Scott stems from a Zion Police Department investigation.  The charges on the arrest warrant were:

Aggravated battery with a firearm (class X felony)

Two counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm (class 1 felonies)

Aggravated battery (class 3 felony)

Sheriff John Idleburg said, “While all of our staff face potential danger every day, our warrants deputies risk their lives apprehending some of the most violent wanted subjects.  This is an example of someone accused of violent crimes who did everything he could to avoid apprehension.  His unacceptable actions ultimately caused injuries to a task force officer, and he will be held accountable.”

Scott remains held in the Lake County Jail pending a court hearing this morning.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
