Ticks are a growing concern in Lake County. Once considered a rare illness in Lake County, Lyme disease is becoming more common in the area. The Lake County Health Department / Community Health Center is encouraging residents to take precautions against ticks. Below are some tips to reduce your exposure to them.
1. Stay on trails when in forest preserves and parks
2. Wear light-colored, protective clothing, such as long-sleeved shirts, long trousers, boots or sturdy shoes, and a head covering
3. Apply insect repellent containing DEET primarily to clothes
4. If your pets spend time outdoors, regularly check them for ticks too
