Board of Review Hearing Officer Exam Rescheduled to New Date and Place

The Lake County Board of Review is seeking qualified professionals with a background in real estate to serve as Board of Review Hearing Officers. All applicants must pass a two-hour qualifying exam. Our current “Shelter in Place” & Social Distancing guidelines has caused us to postpone & change the location of our BOR Exam, originally scheduled for May 6.  The exam will now take place at 1 p.m. Thursday July 9, 2020, at the Lake County Central Permit Facility, 500 W Winchester Road, Libertyville IL 60048. Room, CPF GU 2220 A, B & C.  Please note that this is a different location than previously announced.

Hearing Officers play an important role in striving for equitable and fair property assessments through the assessment appeal process. They act as unbiased intermediaries, and hear testimony on written appeals of any real estate parcel that is claimed to be over or under-assessed. They then determine if the assessment is just or if it needs to be corrected.

Board of Review hearings will take place daily in Waukegan between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. from July to October of 2020. Scheduling is flexible depending on the officer’s availability. Officers will be hired as independent contractors and will be paid at the rate of $285 per day.

How to Register for the Exam:

Exam scores will be good for three years from the day the examination took place, unless the exam is retaken and failed within the three-year period.
