On May 10, 2016 at approximately 12:08 AM, Fox River Grove Police conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a traffic violation, in the area of Route 14 and Opatrny Drive, Fox River Grove. During the traffic stop, the front seat passenger, later identified as Christopher S. Caceres, 38, of the 6700 block of Pheasant Trail, Cary, exited the vehicle and punched the Fox River Grove Police Officer. Caceres then fled on foot.

Fox River Grove Police Department requested the assistance of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Canine Team to assist in the search for Caceres. Additionally, the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office and Cary Police Department responded to the scene to establish a perimeter.

Upon the arrival of Lake County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Dax, he and his handler, Deputy Forlenza, began tracking the scent of Caceres. Caceres was located a short time later by K-9 Dax in the 100 block of Crescent Road, Fox River Grove, where he was taken into custody without further incident.

It was determined Caceres had active arrest warrants in McHenry and Lake Counties on drug-related charges. Caceres was subsequently charged with Aggravated Battery to a Police Officer (Class 3 Felony) and Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor), by Fox River Grove Police. He was transported to the McHenry County Jail, to await a bond hearing.
Fox River Grove Chief of Police Ron Lukasik said, “This offender, who exhibited violence toward police officers, was quickly apprehended due to the great teamwork between neighboring police agencies.”

Lake County Sheriff Mark Curran said, “Our canine teams actively train for situations like this. I’m very proud of the collaboration between police agencies, which led to a successful conclusion.”

Lake County Undersheriff Ray Rose said, “Deputy Forlenza and K-9 Dax did a terrific job working with Fox River Grove Police and being able to quickly track and apprehend this fleeing offender.”
