[ARCHIVED] Stay Aware and Be Prepared for Winter Weather in Lake County

A winter storm featuring rain, sleet, ice, snow and gusty winds is expected to move across the region Friday night through early Sunday morning. According to the National Weather Service, rain and up to 0.25 inches of ice are in the forecast for Friday night through Saturday. Lake County could also see between three to seven inches of snow as temperatures drop through Saturday night. Significant lakeshore flooding with a one-to-two-foot storm surge and waves from 12-18 feet are expected.

The wintry conditions could make travel difficult across the region. Those that need to travel should allow extra time to get to their destination and provide snow plows room to work on the roads.

ComEd has increased staffing and is closely monitoring the freezing rain and snow. Snow and ice can build up, which may cause power lines to break and tree limbs to fall onto power lines, or even result in broken poles. Report any power outages to ComEd.com/Report.
