The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a double-fatal and critical injury traffic crash.
On December 19, 2019, at approximately 5:20PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a traffic crash with injuries on Route 59 in the area of West Beach Avenue, Unincorporated Lake Villa. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and observed three vehicles with heavy damage.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2017 Nissan SUV, driven by an adult female, was traveling northbound on Route 59 at Beach Avenue. At the same time, an adult male driver a 2014 Ford Pickup, pulling a trailer, was attempting to merge from the east side shoulder of Route 59 into the northbound lanes of Route 59, in the same area. The front of the Nissan struck the Ford, causing the Nissan to roll. As the Nissan was sliding it was struck by a southbound 2007 Hyundai minivan, driven by an adult male.
The occupants of the Nissan sustained significant injuries. The adult female driver of the Nissan was pronounced deceased at the scene. A male child backseat passenger was also pronounced deceased at the scene. A female child backseat passenger was airlifted via medical helicopter to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge with critical injuries.
The driver of the Hyundai sustained serious injuries and was transported via ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville. A teenaged male passenger sustained serious injuries and was transported via ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The driver of the Ford sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported via ambulance to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and autopsies are scheduled for tomorrow morning.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
