When rainfall and snowmelt travels over and through the ground, it picks up and carries away natural and human-made pollutants, depositing them into lakes, rivers, wetlands, and groundwater. Lake County’s Stormwater Management Commission has received a $1.2 million Section 319 grant from the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency to implement seven projects that will help reduce this type of pollution and improve water quality in the Des Plaines River, North Branch Chicago River, and Fox River watersheds.
