On October 1, 2019, Sheriff John Idleburg received the Hispanic Heritage Award from the League of United Latin American Citizens, during a meeting celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.

Sheriff Idleburg received the honor for his leadership in providing public messaging supporting family unity and treating immigrants with respect and dignity, which reflects the Lake County Sheriff’s Office commitment to the community.

A pillar of the Lake County Sheriff’s Office is building partnerships with the community we serve.  With a strong community partnership we see an increase in public trust, an increased likelihood of working with the community to solve crimes, all while providing exceptional service.

Present during the ceremony were U.S. Congressman Brad Schneider, Illinois Representative Rita Mayfield, and LULAC National Immigration NIC Committee Chair Julie Contreras, among others.

Sheriff John Idleburg said, “Treating every human being with respect and dignity is an absolute must, especially in the law-enforcement profession.  While the award was presented to me, the credit goes to the men and women of the Sheriff’s Office who diligently work to keep our communities safe and act with integrity, while treating everyone they meet fairly and with respect.”
