On September 9, 2019, at approximately 12:15PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to Russell Road and Kenosha Road, Unincorporated Zion, for a traffic crash with injuries. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a box-truck collided with a minivan. The driver of the minivan required extrication from the vehicle to be freed.
Preliminary investigation shows the driver of the 1997 Ford Box Truck, a 69-year-old man of Winthrop Harbor, was traveling eastbound on Russell Road. The driver of the 1998 Dodge Grand Caravan, driven by an 89-year-old female of Beach Park, was traveling northbound on Kenosha Road. Kenosha Road is controlled by a stop sign for northbound and southbound traffic at the intersection, there is no traffic control device for eastbound and westbound Russell Road.
As the truck was traveling eastbound through the intersection, the driver of the Dodge proceeded northbound. The front of the truck struck the driver’s side of the Dodge.
The driver of the Dodge was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with life-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck was uninjured.
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
