[ARCHIVED] Update: 17-Year-Old Petitioned to Juvenile Court

Following a thorough investigation, Sheriff’s Detectives determined all of the parties involved in this incident knew each other from all previously attending the same school.  Two 17-year-old males arrived at the residence in the 17700 block of West Horseshoe Lane, Unincorporated Gurnee, as two weeks prior, one of them sold a pair of shoes to the 17-year-old that resides on Horseshoe Lane.  The two came to collect payment from the resident, as he hadn’t paid.

The two arrived at the residence and knocked on the door.  The 17-year-old who resides at the home came to the front door and during the conversation flashed a semi-automatic pistol in his waistband.  After displaying the firearm, the 17-year-old resident reached for it, and a physical fight between the three ensued.  The 17-year-old resident fired one shot at the two males.  One of the males was struck in the inner-thigh area of both legs, but both fled from the scene in fear or being shot again.

The juvenile who sustained the gunshot wound attempted to tend to his injury on his own, without telling anyone else he had been shot.  When Sheriff’s Detectives spoke with him and saw his injury, detectives ensured the juvenile received medical treatment.

The firearm was recovered late in the evening on September 5th.

On September 9, 2019, the 17-year-old Horseshoe Lane resident was petitioned to the juvenile justice system on the charges of:

Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm (Class 1 Felony)

Aggravated Assault (Class 4 Felony)

The juvenile is being held at the Hulse Juvenile Detention Facility in Vernon Township pending a juvenile detention hearing.

All suspects are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

Unincorporated Gurnee Aggravated Battery (issued 9/5/19)

On September 5, 2019, at approximately 5:00PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the 17700 block of West Horseshoe Lane, Unincorporated Gurnee, for a report of a shots fired.

Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found the victim, a 17-year-old male who lived at the address of occurrence, sustained non-life-threatening injuries from a physical altercation with two unknown subjects.  Nobody was shot during the incident.

Further investigation shows the victim was speaking with two males who arrived in a silver Honda Accord.  The males were possibly of Hispanic descent, in their late teens or early twenties.  They were speaking with the victim just outside or inside the residence.

A fight between the three ensured, and someone produced a firearm.  The firearm was discharged, but nobody was struck.  The two males who arrived in the Honda fled from the scene.

Sheriff’s Detectives continue to investigate, however, based on the information obtained thus far, this does not appear to be a random incident.
