On August 23, 2019, at approximately 11:15PM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies were dispatched to the area of Route 173, west of Hunt Club Road, Unincorporated Antioch, for a pedestrian struck by a vehicle.  Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found a 44-year-old man of Woodridge deceased in the roadway.

Preliminary investigation shows a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 33-year-old female of Lindenhurst, was traveling westbound on Route 173, just west of Hunt Club Road.  The pedestrian, for an unknown reason, was standing in the westbound lanes of traffic.  The pedestrian was struck by the westbound Volkswagen and sustained fatal injuries.  The pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Volkswagen was transported to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville with non-life-threatening injuries.

A vehicle belonging to the pedestrian was located near the crash scene.  The vehicle was stuck on a large landscaping rock.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is in the process of scheduling an autopsy.

The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Team.
