As a public water supplier, we are required by the State of Illinois to maintain an active cross connection control program to protect the safety of our water consumers. A cross connection is an actual or potential connection between a public water supply system and any source of liquid, solid, or gas that could contaminate the drinking water supply. To control this potential problem, the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (IEPA), Illinois Plumbing Code, and Lake County Public Works require a backflow preventer be installed on any connection to the public water supply system. Examples of items you could have that may need a backflow preventer installed are irrigation systems, private wells, fire sprinkler systems, and swimming pools. 

In an effort to further ensure water quality and safety, the IEPA also requires water providers to conduct a Cross Connection Control survey every two years. The purpose of the survey is to highlight the importance of maintaining a safe drinking water system, identify item(s) that will require a backflow preventer, and outline the dangers associated with cross connections that do not have a backflow device installed.

Lake County Public Works has partnered with CCRA Professional Services to assist with this informational survey. CCRA will review the surveys to determine if any potential sources exist that may contribute to accidental contamination of our drinking water supply.

To complete this survey, go online to ccra4safewater.com.

Next, select your city, and make sure “LAKE COUNTY IL” is selected in the dropdown before searching for your address. Note: you can search your address by entering your street number and use the Find command (Ctrl F or Command F) to find your street name.

Once you find and select your address, enter the last eight digits of your water account number without the leading zero to start your survey. Note: your water account number can be found on your water bill.
