On July 31, 2019, at approximately 7:15AM, Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to a rollover traffic with injuries on Route 12, north of Case Road, Volo. Sheriff’s Deputies arrived and found the driver sustained critical injuries as a result of the crash.
Preliminary investigation shows a 2000 GMC pickup truck, carrying a sealcoating tank, driven by an 18-year-old female of Volo, was traveling northbound on Route 12, north of Case Road. As the pickup truck traveled north, the driver of the vehicle for an unknown reason drove off the east side of the roadway. She then overcorrected, likely causing the vehicle to roll. She wasn’t wearing her seatbelt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The passenger, an 18-year-old female of Wauconda, was wearing her seatbelt and sustained minor injuries. She was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Unincorporated Barrington with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Lake County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene and is scheduling an autopsy for tomorrow.
Both the driver and the passenger were summer/seasonal Wauconda School District employees, and recent Wauconda High School graduates. Both were working at the time of the crash. Wauconda School District administration has activated their Crisis Team and will be issuing information to students, parents, and staff with grief counseling options. Information regarding support will be available on the Wauconda School District Website at: http://www.d118.org/
The crash remains under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit.
